2020 has kicked off and we have a fantastic series of activities planned for the year ahead. In addition, we look forward to Colourful Heritage turning 10 years old!
We are pleased to share with you below details of our upcoming projects and events and invite individuals and organisations to get involved. Activities include identity workshops, a film festival, school visits, a history outdoor trek, designing a new tartan, heritage competitions and full set of summer activities for youngsters!
Our activities are designed to help educate, empower and build important soft skills and are for all ages. We have curated these in a unique way by using our heritage to address contemporary challenges BME communities face. For existing organisations working with BMEs, we are happy to partner and deliver these for your stakeholders.
My Kahanni Youth Project
My Kahanni initiative seeks to engage with the youth (12-25) to share their stories and explore their identity and sense of belonging using heritage! We are doing this using workshops, film festival and social media.

Our identity workshops seek to challenge stereotypes and empower young people through trailblazers and our heritage.
We also offer free workshops which give you essential skills useful to find a job or apply for university and in any personal and life situation: research, planning, organisation, teamwork, communication, presentation, creativity, observation, …!
These creative workshops run by Cinetopia use a filmmaking thematique
(storyboarding, interviewing, on-camera presentation and editing) and explore heritage.
The project will culminate in a film festival and screening that will focus on sharing the work which our participants have created and produced!

In the footsteps of the soldiers of Force K6
In 2019, we teamed up with Boots and Beards to pilot a themed walking
adventure around Aviemore in the footsteps of Force K6, a special regiment of the British Indian Army which served in Scotland.
As the weather improves, we will be running this again to further explore and unpack the story of these brave soldiers. Contact us if you want to come along to the next adventure trail!
Calling for a permanent memorial!
We need your support to create a permanent memorial in Scotland dedicated to commemorate the contribution of the British Indian Army in WW1&2. In addition we need your help to find the Pakistani relatives of the Force K6 soldiers buried in Scotland nearly 80 years ago. The soldiers were from the Punjab region. Can you help us trace their relatives?

Schools Resource Pack
After a successful pilot study involving ten Glasgow Primary schools, a revised second edition of the school’s booklet for Unit 1 & 2 about ‘The British Indian Army in World War 1 & 2’ respectively and Force K6 will be ready for schools this year.
By Summer 2020, we plan to release a further three school’s booklets on our website about the Scottish South Asian contribution to entrepreneurship and politics as well as identity & migration.

GlaswegAsians Exhibition
Visit the GlaswegAsians exhibition – now extended!
Following the great feedback and successful community engagement, the GlaswegAsians exhibition at Scotland Street School Museum has been extended for a further three years till 2022! During this time, we anticipate introducing several new and exciting family offers including more partnership working.
Come along with your family and see these plus much more at the exhibition!
During 2020, we will also be extending the opportunity to explore South Asian toys and games with artist-led sessions, offering a chance to make, play and take away copies of the board games Saamp Seerhi and Bagh-Bakri.

In 2007, the late Bashir Ahmad made history when he became the first coloured and Muslim member of the Scottish Parliament, representing Glasgow. The traditional Pakistani clothes he wore to reflect his Pakistani roots while taking the oath of office will be on display at the end of February 2020 at the GlaswegAsians exhibition.
A specially commissioned khadi poppy commemorating the South Asian soldiers who fought in the First World War will also go on display in February 2020.
